Our mission

The Italy Innocence Project is a no profit organization - hosted by the University of Roma Tre, Dipartimento di Giurisprudenza - and directed by Luca Lupária, Full Professor of Criminal Procedure at the Roman Athenaeum.

The Project is part of the Innocence Network since January 2014.

Its mission is to focus on the issues related to wrongful convictions and miscarriages of justice in Italy and, more in general, in Europe through research studies, dissemination activities and communications.

Through education, research and reform proposals, we aim to prevent such injustices in the future. We gained our experience through precious international contacts, especially with eminent American institutes which have been dealing for decades with these issues.

We also offer pro bono legal consulting and scientific resources to the Italian lawyers who assist wrongful convicted inmates in our jails, in order to obtain verdicts' review, according to articles 629-639 of the Italian Criminal Procedure Code.
